About Me

My name is Melanie, otherwise known as Mel or Mummy. I live in Brentwood, Essex with my husband James and our three children (Hpops (2004), Imp (2006), Pixie (2008) To preserve their privacy and future embarrassment I have changed their names.

I hold a degree in English and American Literature from the University of Kent at Canterbury. Between 1999-2000 I trained as a primary school teacher with the Billericay Educational Consortium. After Hpops was born I returned to teaching but following the arrival of  Imp I decided to be come a full time Mum.

I have been awarded a diploma in creative writing from the Open University. With them I have also studied some philosophy, psychology and children’s literature and am considering a second degree in Psychology. I ran the London Marathon in 2012 fulfilling another long held ambition.

My main ambition to become a published writer has been achieved as my novel Tumbling Through Life was published in 2009. I just hope someone reads what I have written and is entertained. If they can read my story and forget where they are for the time they are reading I will have achieved my goal. I am currently editing my first book for children and am in the process of writing and planning other projects. You can follow my progress (or lack of) here. I would love to hear what people think.

I returned to work in the classroom in 2012 and have really enjoyed this time back at work. I am currently working part time at school and trying to motivate myself to write often enough to finally finish book 2. Hopefully coming soon…maybe! I hope to train as a SENCO and am studying psychology.

Our son was diagnosed with Perthes disease in his right hip in January 2014. He had his first surgery in 2014 and follow up in 2015; he is now healing well and resuming his usual activities. in 2018 he was diagnosed with Autism. Hpops is now a teenager and Pixie will soon be transitioning from junior school – life is whizzing by!

Thanks for visiting – hope you come back soon.
